The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has covered the number of trans fatty acids (TFA) in oils and fats to three present for 2021 and two present by 2022 from the present permissible limit of fifty through a modification to the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restriction on Sales) laws. it had been in 2011 that India 1st passed a regulation that set a TFA limit of 100% in oils and fats, that was any reduced to five in 2015.

 

The country’s food regulative body notified the change on December 29, over a year once it issued a draft on the topic for consultation with stakeholders. The revised regulation applies to edible refined oils, vanaspati (partially modify oils), margarine, bakery shortenings, and alternative mediums of cookery like vegetable fat spreads and mixed fat spreads.
