The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has been established beneath the Food Safety and Standards, 2006 that consolidates numerous acts & orders that have Still now handled food connected problems in various Ministries and Departments. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has been created for laying down science-based technology for articles of food and to manage their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import to make sure dexterity of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.
Various central Acts like prevention of Food Adulteration Act,1954, Fruit product Order, 1955, Meat Food product Order,1973,
Vegetable Oil product (Control) Order, 1947, Edible Oils Packaging (Regulation)Order 1988, Solvent Extracted Oil, De- oiled Meal and Edible Flour (Control) Order, 1967, Milk and Milk Product Order, 1992 etc are repealed once the commencement of FSS Act, 2006.
The Act conjointly aims to determine one indicator for all matters about food safety and standards, by moving from multi-level, multi-division management to one line of command. to the present impact, the Act establishes a freelance statutory Authority – the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India with the headquartered at Delhi. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and therefore the State Food Safety Authorities shall enforce varied provisions of the Act.
Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India is that the body Ministry for the implementation of FSSAI. The president and Chief executive officer of Food Safety and Standards Authority of INDIA (FSSAI) have already been appointed by the Government of India. The chairperson is within the rank of Secretary to Government of India.
