How FSSAI works ?

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has been established beneath the Food Safety and Standards, 2006 that consolidates numerous acts & orders that have Still now handled food connected problems in various Ministries and Departments. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has been created for laying down science-based technology for articles of food and to manage their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import to make sure dexterity of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.

 

Highlights of the Food Safety and customary Act, 2006

Various central Acts like prevention of Food Adulteration Act,1954, Fruit product Order, 1955, Meat Food product Order,1973,

 

Vegetable Oil product (Control) Order, 1947, Edible Oils Packaging (Regulation)Order 1988, Solvent Extracted Oil, De- oiled Meal and Edible Flour (Control) Order, 1967, Milk and Milk Product Order, 1992 etc are repealed once the commencement of FSS Act, 2006.

 

The Act conjointly aims to determine one indicator for all matters about food safety and standards, by moving from multi-level, multi-division management to one line of command. to the present impact, the Act establishes a freelance statutory Authority – the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India with the headquartered at Delhi. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and therefore the State Food Safety Authorities shall enforce varied provisions of the Act.

 

Establishment of the Authority

Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India is that the body Ministry for the implementation of FSSAI. The president and Chief executive officer of Food Safety and Standards Authority of INDIA (FSSAI) have already been appointed by the Government of India. The chairperson is within the rank of Secretary to Government of India.

 

 

FSSAI has been mandated by the FSSAI Act, 2006 for acting the subsequent functions:

  • Framing of laws to put down the Standards and pointers in relevancy articles of food and specifying an acceptable system of implementing numerous standards therefore notified.
  • Enact mechanisms and pointers for the enfranchisement of certification bodies engaged in certification of food safety management system for food businesses.
  • Laying down procedure and pointers for the enfranchisement of laboratories and notification of the commissioned laboratories.
  • To provide scientific recommendation and technical support to Central Government and State Governments within the matters of framing the policy and rules in areas that have a right away or indirect bearing of food safety and nutrition.
  • Collect and collate knowledge relating to food consumption, incidence and prevalence of biological risk, contaminants in food, residues of various, contaminants in foods product, identification of rising risks and introduction of the fast alert system.
  • Creating an info network across the country so the general public, consumers, Panchayats etc receive speedy, reliable and objective data about food safety and problems with concern.
  • Provide coaching programmes for persons who are involved or will sanitary in food businesses.
  • Contribute to the development of international technical standards for food, sanitary and phytosanitary standards.
  • Promote general awareness regarding food safety and food standards.
