What is an official passport?

 

The CPV Division issues diplomatic & official passports to Indian Gov officials proceeding abroad for official visits or assignments.

 

Official passports are issued with specific validity of five (5) years & less, depending on the position of the holder & the character of assignment or visit.

 

The Consular, Passport, and Visa (CPV) Division also issues visa notes to Indian Gov officials going abroad for an official visit or assignment. Requests for visa notes have to be presented in the form of a letter addressed to Joint Secretary I.e. Consular, Passport and Visa (CPV) along with supporting documents related to the official assignment/visit.

 

If the appeal forms for the Diplomatic or Official passport & the visa note requests are in order, the same would normally be method in 3-5 working days.

 

Official passports also are issued by RPOs concerned subject to clearance by CPV Division.

 

Why do I need a passport?

 

Passports are necessary if you’d like to travel abroad as they verify your id and nationality. They grant the bearer safe passage & protection in a foreign land.

 

You typically must present your passport several times at the airport if you are flying & at the border if you are traveling by car.

 

Can I Use My Passport as My ID?

 

Yes. You can use your passport as unification outside the airport. However, it’s not recommended to carry around your passport on a daily basis / for a night out, as replacing a lost passport can be costly & time-consuming.

 

What does a passport look like?

 

According to the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Doc 9303” Machine Readable Travel Documents,”(MRTD) passports are size 3 travel documents that must follow specific regulations for their construction, layout, & contents.

 

Size 3 travel documents must take the form of a booklet with at least eight (8) pages & a data page. In addition, the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) mandates various security features on passports to prevent counterfeiting & fraud.

 

Can I Travel With a Damaged Passport?

 

If your passport is damaged in any method your best bet is to apply for a new one. It’s possible & highly likely that the border safety at your destination will refuse you entry to the country if you present them with a damaged passport.

 

According to the gov of Canada, a passport is considered damaged if it appears to have been altered in any way & if identifying the bearer is hindered in any way. Types of damage include exposure to water, humidity, tears, & unauthorized markings.

 

Passports are official documents & should be taken care of at all times.

 

What kind of Security Features do passports have?

 

According to the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Doc 9303 Machine Readable Travel Documents,” passports must have certain security features to prevent counterfeiting & fraud.

 

Some of the security shapes include holograms that light up under UV light, an electronic chip with the bearer’s information, optically variable ink, which changes color under different light sources, & anti-scan patterns.

 

Passport-issuing authorities are encouraged to use a variety of safety features in order to make it as difficult as possible to forge their passports.
