Why is Passport required?

 

All Indian citizens who depart/intend to depart from India are required to be in possession of a valid passport/travel document. Under the Passports Regulations 1967, the Gov of India may issue different types of passports & travel documents such as Ordinary Passport, Diplomatic Passport, Official Passport, & Emergency Certificate & Certificate of Id for the purpose.

 

 

Apply for Passport Services

 

All Indian citizens who depart or intend to depart from India are required to have a valid passport/travel document. Under the Passports Regulations 1967, the Gov of India may issue different types of passports & travel documents. Applicants in the United States of America (USA) are required to apply for their passports through VFS Indian Consular Application centers.

 

Your Indian passport establishes your id in a foreign country. Hence it’s important to have it re-issued before the date of expiry. The passport can be submitted for re-issue up to one year before the expiry date.

 

Your Indian passport is a valuable document. It should be either in your custody & in the custody of an individual duly approved by you. In case it is lost or destroyed, the fact & circumstances should be immediately reported to the nearest Mission & the local police.

 

All minors are needed to have a separate passport. The old practice of including a child’s name within the Passport of either of the parents has been discontinued.

 

On acquiring the US or Foreign nationality, the Indian Passport should be submitted to the nearest for cancellation as per the Consular Jurisdiction. It’s returned to the holder after cancellation.. After acquiring the United States (US) or foreign citizenship, you don’t remain an Indian citizen & need an Indian visa to travel to India.

Step by step guide

 

Identify the passport service type

 

The first step is to determine which type of passport service you need, & check whether you are eligible to apply for it. There are different types of passport services. These are as follows:

 

Re-issuance of Indian Passport (Normal scheme)

 

NOTE: There’ll be no extensions of validity on passports issued. There’ll always be a re-issue on a new application. You will also need to know the documents that you will have to submit along with your application, how long the application might take, & the fees you will have to pay.

 

Each application must comply with the applicable guidelines to your passport related category.

 

Complete Mail-in application process & pay fees

 

After completing the online form, prepare your physical application pack along with all the required documents & send them by post to the. The document checklist provided to you once you have completed the below steps.

 

You can submit your application based on your state of residence. Please refer to https://www.indianembassyusa.gov.in/pages/MTk, to verify which center you should send your application to.

 

If you are part of a family/group, you will have to create an individual profile for each member of the family/group.

 

You need to follow the below steps to complete the mail-in application submission method.

Create a profile & register on the VFS portal system & click on apply to complete the subsequent steps:

 

• Choose the correct state of Residence as per the Consular Jurisdiction & correct passport category as per your purpose of visit.
•  Choose Mode of Submission as Postal. Note: aren’t accepting application in person due to COVID -19.

 

Submit your Physical Application to VFS

 

Once you have completed the mail-in application registration, you’ll be ready to dispatch your physical application packet via the shipping process selected by you.

 

Post receipt of the application by post

 

Upon receipt of your application VFS systems will be updated & you’ll receive an email notification. A review process is initiated to check if the application meets the requirements of the Mission or Post.

 

Track your application

 

You’ll receive your application process notifications via email or SMS as & when application status changes.
