Introduction
 

With a view to providing proper shelters, freed from cost, to the poor, the govt in Housing Department has laid proper specialise in the development of homes for the Economically Weaker Section of individuals. This scheme is being implemented within the rural areas and non-Municipal urban areas in coordination with seven other Government Departments under the name of ‘Gitanjali’ and ‘Amar Thikana’.

The poor had been given housing, and 19,000 new toilets had been built. A hostel, mountaineering facilities, annual sports tournaments and other schemes are initiated, and a “clean Darjeeling, green Darjeeling” drive had also been started. within the coming days, more people would get homes under the Gitanjali Housing scheme. “We want that folks should accept respect and with their heads held high in their own homes.”

So as to supply free shelters to the poor, the govt of West Bengal has launched a project under the name of Gitanjali. The project serves two purposes; it provides shelters to the economically weaker section of the society also as creates additional employment opportunities for construction workers.

 

Overview of the scheme:

 

The government is providing Rs. 70 thousand per house during a plain area and Rs. 75 thousand per house at Hill area and also at Sundarban area under the project. Through the District Magistrate, 70% are going to be deposited because the first instalment to the checking account of the beneficiary and therefore the residue 30% are going to be deposited because the second instalment. to urge the advantage the potential beneficiary only should have a hassle-free land by his own name.

a) Minority Affairs & Madrasah Department of Education,

b) Backward Classes Welfare Department,

c) Fisheries Department,

d) Forest Department,

e) Sundarban Affairs Department and

f) Paschimanchal Unnayan Affairs Department and non-Municipal urban areas by statutory organizations viz.

WBHB, WBHIDCO etc. under the name of 'Geetanjali' and 'Amar Thikana' during a country is being implemented by P& RD Department.

For people categorized as economically weaker sections (EWS), the Trinamool Government has created two schemes, ‘Gitanjali’ and ‘Amar Thikana’. thanks to the introduction of the Gitanjali and Amar Thikana schemes, the thrust towards the development of rural housing has been far better.
The main objective of the 2 schemes is to supply proper shelters to the economically weaker section of society also on create additional employment opportunities for construction workers, etc. the value of such dwelling units for brand spanking new construction on beneficiary's land in rural areas varies across the span and terrain of the state as follows due to different soil and climatic conditions:

a) Rs. 1.67 lakh for beneficiaries, generally, residing in Rural areas of plains;

b) Rs. 1.94 lakh for beneficiaries residing within the notified Sundarban areas;

c) Rs. 2.51 lakh for beneficiaries residing within the notified Hill areas of Darjeeling District and

d) Rs. 3.00 lakh within the Forest villages of Jalpaiguri District.

The Government has given Special stress to mitigate the housing problem of the distressed and deprived people for an extended tenure. the target of the govt is to construct fully subsidized residential houses for the people belonging to Minority Community, Fishermen and other people belonging to Economically Weaker Section in Sundarban and Paschimanchal areas.

In the course of implementing the scheme, our Department is facing problems like effective monitoring also as speedy and uniformity in implementation throughout the State of West Bengal. to beat this, with effect from 01st April 2014 "AMAR THIKANA" has been merged with " GEETANJALI " and therefore the only Scheme within the name " GEETANJALI " is being implemented through District Magistrates. As per the approval of the Finance Department, the cost is Rs. 70000 (Seventy thousand) for the plain and Rs. 75000 (Seventy-five thousand) in Hills/ difficult and Sundarban areas.

 

Income Criteria

 

The people having family income of Rs. 6000/- per month or less are eligible. People within the BPL list will get priority.

 

Category of Beneficiaries

 

  •  Poor people in rural and concrete (Urban) areas.
  • Poor people in Erosion/Flood/other calamity affected/ Disaster prone areas.
  • Poor people suffering from Government projects.

 

Documents Required

 

  • Fully filled application which you've got signed
  • Identity and residence proof (KYC), like Aadhaar card, PAN card, Voter ID card, Job card issued by NREGA, etc.
  • Income proof, like last 2 months salary slip and three-month statement
  • Property documents (unless you've got not finalized a property)

 

Criteria for Applying

 

Homeless but the owner of the land and having monthly income below Rs. 6000/-, may apply under this project. In short, every poor of the state and particularly those that are homeless thanks to flood or caving in of the embankment may apply.
