Delivery and acceptance of Manuscript- an overview

A manuscript can be termed as handwritten compositions that are written on paper or bark or cloth or metal or palm leaf or any other material. Manuscript proofs are received by the author after it is accepted for publication. Then the corresponding author approves the manuscript. Then the article is generally compiled into an issue of a journal. Finally, the manuscript is published. There are no further inputs needed by the author.

Introduction

A publisher of a work may be displeased with the manuscripts submitted by the author of the work. It is because of a few reasons-

  • May be poorly written
  • May contain factual or numeric errors
  • May not have the proper tone it was expected to delivery
  • May not reflect the contents the author wanted to express etc

The work may also expose the company who has published the work to expensive litigation and this will be a concern to the publisher. The publisher may be needed to reject the manuscript that is submitted. Otherwise, the author wishes to do editorial changes that are requested to do so.

Delivery and acceptance of a manuscript

The editor takes six months to read any manuscript; the person has to wait six months or more to get the check. The author has delivered the work on time. Even though he or she is already working hard on the next projects some don’t accept the book officially till they are not going through what they call author review. It suggests that the book is edited, copyedited, and the author has reviewed it and accepted all edits at the same time. Others will wish to make sure the revisions that have been finished by the author and successfully accepted by the editor. Some publishers will not allow delivery and acceptance checks to go through until the manuscript is in the hands of the copyeditor. Others will gladly put it within minutes after the material is delivered. What you end up with really depends on the publisher and the editor of a manuscript. It can also depend on the relationship between the author and the editor.

As per the delivery & acceptance clause, the word will be given providing the publisher a limited time to have a depth look and accept the work. The publisher will be required to respond within about 45 days. Surely, all the publishers will agree to this matter, and even if it is in there it doesn’t always mean that the editors will make the dates.  Some descriptions are also presented like what is to be delivered. As much as possible someone wants the delivery and acceptance clause written in the contract to let you know the publishers what exactly is required to give the credit to the materials acceptable. Generally, It suggests proper time structure like how long one has to revise the materials and transform them as well as acceptable.

Conclusion

The most important advice that can be given to the writers about the delivery &acceptance of the clause that has to be made sure the delivery date to be attainable. Don’t feel pressure to submit the work quickly as you are afraid of the publisher losing interest. They would not have bought the book if they thought that they might lose their interest in it. Go and pick a date that not only works with your schedule but most importantly you can reach while writing the best book as much as possible. And secondly, make sure while reviewing your delivery & acceptance clause. If you expect to deliver the maps, it is fine. But if your delivery & acceptance clause stating that the maps are required and you had no intention to prove the maps, you might be in such a situation that is going to cause nothing but gives headaches down the road.
