INTRODUCTION:

On Nov 19 (PTI) Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Thursday said he will soon visit Ashok nagar in West Bengal, the location of oil and gas discovery and review the project.

 

An oil and gas discovery has been made during a well in Ashok Nagar of 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, he said adding that one lakh cubic meters per day of gas flowed from one object that was tested.

 

To an issue by MCCI president Vivek Gupta, he said that ONGC has finally found oil and gas at Ashok nagar within the Gangetic belt after 20 years of failure and is hopeful that it'll be the primary of its kind in West Bengal. Consistent with some experts, commercial production from the block could start as early because of the end of this fiscal.

 

The state government has also been working on a plan by the ministry of petroleum resources to develop a pipeline for oil in Ashok Nagar. The project will be funded through a grant from the department of energy and the natural environment. If oil prices fall below the equilibrium level, then demand will increase. · oil prices should be kept low so that people can buy more of it.

The spread of Kutc offshore basin covers a neighbourhood of 28,000 square kilometres in a water depth of up to 200 meters and can become eighth producing basin of the country.
